Ivan De Menis, born in 1973 in Treviso, has been working in the international market for many years. The Venetian painting of Bellini, Giorgione and Titian, strongly characterized by color and light, inspire him as well as the colors, lights and water reflections of the cities of Venice and Treviso. Ivan De Menis works abstractly, his means of expression are form, color and material, nothing more and nothing less. Without content, without stories, pure and simple radical painting. The artist uses color as a vector of energy and an emotional component, in his smaller works called “tesserae” – like individual fragments taken from a larger mosaic – one can perceive aspects that change as soon as one looks at them sideways.

The lateral surfaces of the rectangular and square works are fundamental to understanding De Menis’ work: it is there that one senses the painting and it is there that one notices the signs of the working process, which is much longer and more complex than what one sees in the front, which is so linear, shiny and sealed with epoxy resin. As is often the case, the charm lies in the contrast: on the one hand intense colors and brightness, and on the other hand obvious color streaks and textures.
