Giosetta Fioroni on display at the GAM in Turin

A focus on the films of 1967, at the GAM from April to September

We are pleased to highlight the exhibition that the GAM – Galleria Civica d’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea of Turin is dedicating to the films of Giosetta Fioroni, curated by Elena Volpato. The show, running from April 16 to September 7, 2025, is part of the museum’s ongoing series exploring Italian artist films and videos from the 1960s and 1970s. It features the four films Fioroni created in 1967, now preserved in the museum’s Video Library. These black-and-white, silent films offer a minimal and suspended perspective on the themes of identity and representation, aligning with the artist’s poetic vision. The images, often centered on the feminine, oscillate between presence and absence, crafting a narrative through everyday gestures and rarefied atmospheres.

A work at the center: “La ragazza della TV”

The exhibition opens with “La ragazza della TV” (1964), a silver enamel painting on canvas that belongs to the collections of the GAM and the Eugenio Battisti Experimental Museum. This iconic work is essential to understanding the relationship between painting and moving images in Fioroni’s artistic exploration.

A coherent vision

Though not widely known, the films on display at the GAM fully embody Fioroni’s visual and conceptual language: a careful gaze that treats the image as a surface for reflection—both intimate and collective. We highly recommend visiting this exhibition, which offers a rare and meaningful insight into the work of Giosetta Fioroni.

A thirty-year relationship with the Marcorossi artecontemporanea gallery

This exhibition reaffirms the ongoing interest in one of the most original voices of the Italian art scene in the second half of the 20th century. Marcorossi artecontemporanea has collaborated with Giosetta Fioroni for over thirty years, following her artistic journey with dedication and continuity. Over time, the gallery has had the opportunity to explore and present many facets of her work: from the iconic Silver Papers to the Teatrini, from ceramics made with the Bottega Gatti, to the canvas works from the 1990s and 2000s.

Artist bio

Giosetta Fioroni was born on December 24, 1932, in Rome, into a family of artists. She first exhibited in 1956 at the Venice Biennale, which was followed by numerous solo and group exhibitions in Italy and abroad. In the 1960s and ’70s, she produced a series of silver-painted canvases that quickly garnered attention. In 1968, she staged the performance La Spia Ottica, inaugurating the Teatro delle Mostre at Galleria Tartaruga in Rome. In 1969, she created her first Teatrino—a “toy for adults” made of painted wood.

During the 1970s, Fioroni spent extended periods in the countryside of Treviso with writer Goffredo Parise, drawing inspiration from rural ghost stories and dreamlike, visionary fairytales. In the 1980s, she developed the painting cycle Il vero and created a series of pastels and oils inspired by Giandomenico Tiepolo. Alongside painting, she began a significant ceramic practice in 1993 at the Bottega Gatti in Faenza, which grew into a major focus of her work, culminating in important sculptural series.
