Turin
Via della Rocca 36, 10123 Turin, TO

From 12 November, Terrecotte arrives at the via della Rocca gallery. This is the third venue of the exhibition that MARCOROSSI artecontemporanea dedicates to Ivan Theimer, also open in Milan from 4 November and in Verona from 7 November.
Returning to Turin
Theimer returns to Turin a few years after Selva simbolica, the exhibition that the Fondazione Accorsi-Ometto devoted to him in 2021. Born in Olomouc in 1944 and based in Paris since 1968, he is one of the great European sculptors of our time. His public works include the Monument to the Rights of Man on the Champ-de-Mars and the monument in Place de la Victoire in Bordeaux. In 1996 Václav Havel dedicated a retrospective to him at Prague Castle.
Seven terracotta busts
The exhibition presents seven terracotta busts, unique works modelled, finished and patinated by the artist. Their headdresses display Theimer’s symbolic repertoire, drawing on classical mythology, biblical tradition and the natural world: tortoises, olive wreaths, vine shoots and bunches of grapes, fish, dolphins. The critical essay is by Massimo Bertozzi and will be published in the forthcoming monograph on the terracottas.
The shield with the head of Medusa
The work that can be seen only in Turin is the shield bearing the head of Medusa. Here the Gorgon loses her horror, and her mane of snakes becomes ornament.
