Influenced by the great masters of painting, from Caravaggio to Van Dyck, through the Flemish tradition and the allure of the Baroque, Basilé in his works evokes classical history and the eternity of antiquity, while keeping a gaze fixed on the present. He describes both the wonders and the ugliness of our world, representing the spirit of our time. His subjects, oscillating between the role of classical heroes and common people of today, belong to a multicultural world and carry with them a wealth of knowledge and personal experiences. His iconographies, rich in detail and accuracy, move on a plane that is both rational and imaginative; immersed in historical contexts, they float in an indefinite time, between past and present; as expressions of Western culture, they find connections with the East; sometimes they emanate a sacred aura while addressing profane themes.
