Paolo Ventura at The Phair 2025 | Turin, May 8-11, 2025
At the OGR in Turin, from May 9–11, 2025
On the occasion of The Phair 2025, Marcorossi artecontemporanea presents the premiere of Der Sturm, the new and powerful body of work by Paolo Ventura.
The project emerges as a visual and poetic reflection on the themes of disguise and identity—elements that have always been central to the artist’s practice. Ventura’s works give life to a small theater of the soul, inhabited by entirely handmade puppets that move through suspended urban settings, evoking timeless atmospheres, suspended between dream and memory.
The title Der Sturm—alluding both to the storm and the German expressionist avant-garde—suggests an inner energy, a hidden tension behind the apparent stillness of the scenes. The figures on stage seem to tell silent stories, poised between fiction and truth, fragility and imaginative strength.
Paolo Ventura and the theatre: a deep connection
The bond between Ventura and the world of theatre is both deep and longstanding. The artist has collaborated in the past with prestigious international institutions, including the Lyric Opera of Chicago and the Teatro Regio in Turin, bringing his visual sensitivity to the realm of stage design. With Der Sturm, however, the theatre becomes more introspective: a space for existential representation, an intimate stage where artifice becomes a form of truth.
The next appointment with Paolo Ventura
The Der Sturm series will be at the heart of a broader solo exhibition entitled The Theatre of Life, opening on May 15, 2025, at the gallery’s Milan location, followed by Verona on May 17 and Turin on May 22.
