The Evolution of Ventura’s Imaginative World in His Most Recent Works

Marcorossi artecontemporanea is pleased to announce The Theater of Life, the new solo exhibition by Paolo Ventura, opening in mid-May 2025 across its Milan, Turin, and Verona galleries. The exhibition will debut the artist’s latest body of work titled Der Sturm, alongside a selection of works from other series created between 2024 and 2025.

In Der Sturm, Ventura creates an intimate and symbolic theater, inhabited by handcrafted puppets that move through urban or abstract architectures suspended in time—hallmarks of the artist’s visual language. The images, rich with references to early 20th-century painting and cinema, give shape to deeply poetic narratives exploring themes of masks, identity, and memory.

The exhibitions across the three Marcorossi artecontemporanea venues will provide a broader view of Ventura’s recent production, including the 2024 series À bas Guillaume!, inspired by the poignant, missed encounter between Giuseppe Ungaretti and Guillaume Apollinaire in post-WWI Paris. These works feature surreal atmospheres and enigmatic characters—often portrayed by Ventura himself—set within Parisian backdrops steeped in historical and literary allusions.

The exhibition is completed by several photographic collages created in early 2025, where Ventura reimagines urban landscapes—cities suspended between dream and reality. These large-format works combine painting, photography, and stage design, further expanding the artist’s visionary poetics.

The Theater of Life is a visual and narrative journey that confirms Paolo Ventura’s extraordinary ability to transform imagination into imagery, maintaining a delicate balance between reality and fiction, memory and invention.
