Photography and painting merge together to create evocative scenes, inhabited by mysterious animals and human figures in costume. The settings created by the artist are ambiguous, mysterious, and playful, showcasing extraordinary craftsmanship in small theatrical sets. It is within these sets that the artist’s stories unfold, blending reality and fiction to create a captivating cycle of works. This artwork is part of the “Il suonatore di trombone” series, which the artist developed after the success of his solo exhibition at ARMANI/SILOS in Milan in 2018.

    Biography: Paolo Ventura was born in Milan in 1968. He lives between Milan and Anghiari, in the province of Arezzo. After working in fashion photography for many years, Ventura moved to New York, where he began his artistic career. After ten years in the United States, Ventura returned to Italy, where he continues to create his stories and scenographies. His works are included in important public and private collections, including the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, the Library of Congress in Washington, the Maison Européenne de la Photographie in Paris, the MACRO in Rome, and the MART in Rovereto. The artist has exhibited in numerous museums and galleries, both in Italy and abroad, including the 54th Venice Biennale. Among his recent exhibitions, in 2020 he exhibited at the Műcsarnok Kunsthalle in Budapest, Hungary, and had a large retrospective at Camera – Centro Italiano per la Fotografia in Turin. In 2018, he had a retrospective at Armani/Silos in Milan and a solo exhibition at MAG, Museo del Garda. In 2013, he exhibited at MART – Casa d’Arte Futurista Depero in Rovereto and the previous year at MACRO in Rome. His work also includes the creation of sets and costumes for the Lyric Opera of Chicago and the Teatro Regio in Turin.
